As our lives change our experiences broaden and we develop a range of behaviours to deal with ‘life'. What we do with our experiences and how we respond to them are the main ingredients of personal growth. So why is it so easy to get stuck in a rut, why do many of us repeat the same behaviours, often feeling less than satisfied by the outcome until change is forced on us by a major life event. The answer is simple, it's safe, it's what we are ‘comfortable' with and it's what we expect.
One of the reasons this happens is that we respond emotionally to circumstances, create thought patterns to justify our response and then we act. Many of these responses have been developed since childhood and are habits, rather than conscious processes. We believe they protect us from fear, exposure and ridicule; but in reality these habits can be very self-limiting. For example, we create excuses for ourselves - I can't because I'm too busy, I have other responsibilities, I'm too fat, too old, too shy, I won't be able to do it, the list goes on and on.
Personal growth starts when you challenge some of your own responses, examine your habits and explore your self-limiting thought processes. The good news is that this process of self examination is a habit - any of us can choose to adopt it. We learn to grow as human beings, the process is simple, sometimes painful, but definitely worth the effort. At Leading From Within we give you the tools, the space and the support to grow.

Self Awareness
If we want to develop we first have to learn to be honest about where we are now. Being honest demands a critical look at current behaviour patterns and what needs they meet. It should also be a voyage of rediscovery, at Leading From Within we help you to identify what makes you feel good, what makes you laugh and what you are passionate about. Through a range of activities we will also help you identify what holds you back, what frightens you and what self limiting habits you have.
Thought Processes
The way we think is probably the single most important factor in personal growth. If we believe we can do something we usually can, but how often do we embark on a new regime, fitness, diet or activity with the very best intentions only to fall at the first hurdle. Our conscious thought processes only play a small part in shaping who we are. About 85% of our thought processes are unconscious and these can help or hinder us depending on our attitude and our self esteem. When conscious and unconscious thought processes are in conflict it is unlikely we will achieve our goal. Expectation is part of the unconscious thought process; it is also a significant factor in outcome, if you expect to do well you often do, if you expect to fail that often happens too. The way we think impacts on our whole life, happiness, success and enjoyment. Any one of us can learn to use the way we think to support us in life, not hinder us. Positive thought should not be underestimated, at Leading From Within we can help you identify where you need a bit of positive reconditioning and provide a variety of activities to help you create new thought patterns for you to achieve your dreams.

Many of our negative thought processes can be driven by fear and some fear is good, it is designed to protect us, but around 90% of fear is based on the ‘what if's' our own thoughts create. Fear stops us achieving our best potential, it locks us in situations and behaviours which do not fulfil us. In our workshops we look at strategies for busting fears and learning to take risks. |
Presentation
How we portray ourselves to the rest of the world impacts on how successful we are, how we respect ourselves impacts even more. So in terms of personal growth we have to create the person we want to be. To do this successfully the person we create has to be authentic, true to our values and beliefs, true to our underlying personality and true to our dreams. This creation reinforces positive thought patterns and behaviours. In the end what we actually say to others will have far less impact than how we look and behave. The whole message you give will determine what you get back.
Goals
Without direction, development is incredibly difficult. Goals and dreams don't have to be great big life changers, they can be small incremental achievements that make a difference to you. The important thing is that you have some and that you want them with passion. Realising goals requires self belief. Visualise or daydream about the outcome and the journey with as much detail as you can, as often as you can and you will make it a reality. Expect your goals to be realised, be prepared to take some risks and take action.
Commitment
Don't be afraid to create your own reality, your life as you want it, then commit to it, believe in it and work for it. Personal growth is a journey of discovery which enhances self love, self esteem and confidence. The workshops and programmes provided by Leading From Within are designed to challenge and support you along this journey.
